International Conference: “Urban dynamics and health: concepts, methods and applications” – September 11th-13th
“Urban dynamics and health: concepts, methods and applications”.
September 11th-13th, 2013,
University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense
Urban Health is a crucial issue, as we have been facing an increasing urbanization: more than half of the world population now lives in urban areas, both in the North and the South. Urban health raises a range of original questions on health determinants, the emergence of new diseases, preventive and curative care… and requires that we rethink it without any positive or negative prejudices.
This conference is organized by many other national and international institutions dealing with urban health, and specifically the region of Ile-de-France thanks to its regional initiative PICRI (Partnership Citizen /Institution for Research and Innovation), which support the project “City and Health”, carried out by the research team “Health and Territories” and ESPT. In addition, this event has been initiated as part of the new interdisciplinary initiative of the International Council for Science « Health and wellbeing in the changing urban environment: a system analysis approach ». And also: the Master “Health Geography” of UPO and its partners in the North and South, and many universities, learned societies, scientific associations.
This conference will bring together the world’s best urban health experts, more than 300 researchers, practitioners, policy makers from 49 countries. It will be the largest event on the topic organized so far in Europe.
The aim is to promote links between researchers, civil society and decision-makers in the field of public health. These should enhance a better understanding of the levers of urban health, the close links between urbanization (urban environment, urban segregation, care…) and health status, in order to help and inform better public action.
The conference will be opened by the French Minister for Health and closed by the French Minister for Higher Education and Research.
